Our story

We are Daniel and Maruša, a married couple behind DMZ Boutique. The boutique grew naturally from the things that have been part of our life for years: the Mediterranean, photography and film, original art, food, and our belief that creativity should have room for different ways of seeing the world.

We wanted one place where all of those things could live together.

Here you’ll find Maruša’s photography, original works by artists we believe in, neurodiverse art and creativity we are proud to support. Some things are created by us. Others are discovered along the way. Nothing is here just to fill a shelf.

And then there is spice.

Spices have always been an important part of our life and our kitchen. We love food with character, the smell of something roasting, a little heat, good olive oil, lemons, herbs and, especially, chillies. With Daniel’s Chilean roots and our shared love of Mediterranean life, those influences naturally meet around our table — and increasingly in DMZ too.

Perhaps that is also why we are drawn to art in much the same way. We like things with character. Things that are not too perfect, not too predictable, sometimes quiet and sometimes bold. Something that makes you look twice.

That love of spice is beginning to influence the art we choose, the things we create and the way we present them. You may notice chillies, lemons, tomatoes and other ingredients appearing in unexpected places throughout DMZ. They are not simply decoration. They are part of our life, our travels, our cooking and now, slowly, part of the visual language of the boutique.

DMZ Boutique is our edit of what we would hang on our walls, give to someone we love, cook with, or bring home from somewhere far away.
